Philippines: Pearl Of The Orient No More?
The Philippines used to be called the Pearl of The Orient. A tropical paradise consisting of 7,107 islands where culture is a blending of east and west is quite historical.
Proud of it's beaches, seafood, historical sites and warm friendly people, the country has lost it's place as a top tourist destination in Southeast Asia.
These days tourists prefer Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia and Singapore over Philippines. What has happened? (This article has quite a good explanation why.) Well I can't really blame tourists not visiting Philippines. What with the perennial political unrest and unstable peace and order.
The current Philippine government has a lot of corruption issues to deal with and has been making a lot of bad decisions in the process, so I doubt if they still have time to prioritize re-energizing its tourism industry.
Anyways, it's just too bad that the Philippines has been pushed down the bottom of everything else in Southeast Asia and Asia in general.
